This St Patrick's Day, Executive Pastry Chef Joanne OFlaherty is delighted to share with you one of her favourite Irish recipes, Guinness Brown Bread.
This delicious bread is traditionally served with Irish Stew or Seafood Chowder or simply enjoy with Kerrygold Butter washed down with a glass of Guinness.

Guinness Brown Bread
300 g wholemeal flour
40 g oatmeal
1/4 tsp salt
20g Kerrygold Butter
100 ml black treacle
75 g plain flour
1 1/4 tsp bread soda
1 1/4 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 pint Guinness
Preheat oven to 170o C
Weigh out dry ingredients in a bowl, rub in the butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs
Add milk, black treacle and Guinness and mix to a wet sloppy batter
Divide the batter between 2 well greased 1lb loaf tins or 1 x 2 lb loaf tin, sprinkle on some oats or mixed seeds on top
Bake at 170o C for 40 minutes, remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack until needed.
